STORY

Dodge launched the Dakota for the 1987 model year as a mid-size pickup, bigger than the compacts and smaller than full-size trucks. A 5.2-litre V8 became a regular option for 1991, the only V8 then offered in a pickup smaller than full-size. For 1992 the Magnum engines raised output to 180 hp for the 3.9-litre V6 and 230 hp for the V8. A convertible conversion by the American Sunroof Company ran from 1989 to 1991. The third generation arrived in 2005, and Chrysler withdrew the Dakota in 2011.
