STORY

The Dodge Aspen arrived for the 1976 model year on Chrysler's new F platform, alongside the Plymouth Volare, as the successor to the Dart and Valiant. Motor Trend named the pair its 1976 Car of the Year, an award that was criticized later for the cars' frumpy styling and thirst compared with the imported Simca and Mitsubishi captives. Production ran through 1980, and the last Aspen to leave the Dodge Main plant in Hamtramck was built on January 4, 1980. Chrysler's front-drive Aries replaced it for 1981.
