STORY

The Daytona arrived for 1984 as a front-drive hatchback on Chrysler's G platform, with a 2.2-liter four that could be had with a turbocharger. By 1985 the Turbo I was rated at 146 hp. For 1987 Dodge added the Shelby Z, whose intercooled Turbo II made 174 hp, 28 more than the Turbo I, according to Consumer Guide. The 1992 R/T package took the 2.2 to its limit with the Turbo III, a DOHC-head engine rated at 224 hp. Production ended with the 1993 model year.
