STORY

The Shelby Charger was the version of Dodge's front-drive Charger hatchback that Carroll Shelby reworked, starting with the 1983 model year, and the line ran until the Charger ended in 1987. For that last year Shelby bought 1,000 of the final Chargers, all black, and finished them as the Shelby Charger GLHS, which listed at $12,995. It is easy to mix up with the earlier Omni-based GLHS of 1986, a separate run of 500 cars that Shelby built in Whittier, California, with a 175 hp turbocharged 2.2-liter four.
