365 GT4 2+2 / 400 / 412 · 1976–1985RWD

The 400i arrived in 1976 as the fuel-injected development of the 400, replacing the earlier car's six Weber carburettors with Bosch K-Jetronic injection. Its 4.8-litre Colombo V12 sat in the Pininfarina 2+2 body shared with the 365 GT4 line, and the 400 series was the first Ferrari offered with an automatic gearbox, a General Motors three-speed unit alongside the five-speed manual. It was a discreet, long-distance grand tourer built through 1985.

STORY

This long-running Pininfarina four-seater began as the 365 GT4 2+2 in 1972 with a 4.4-litre V12, evolving into the 400 (with an available automatic transmission, a Ferrari first) and finally the fuel-injected 412. Its crisp, angular design remained in production for 17 years. It offered genuine four-seat grand touring with front-mounted V12 power.
