312T

312T (1975) · 1975–1980RWDFormula One

Named for its transverse (T for trasversale) gearbox, the 312T was Mauro Forghieri's Formula 1 design built around a 3.0-litre flat-12. Across its 312T to 312T5 evolutions it carried Niki Lauda to the 1975 and 1977 drivers' titles and Jody Scheckter to the 1979 crown, along with four constructors' championships for Ferrari. The transverse layout concentrated mass within the wheelbase for sharper handling.
