STORY

Fiat launched the Cinquecento in December 1991 as the successor to the 126, and built it at Tychy, Poland. The launch engine was a 903 cc four-cylinder with 40 PS, cut to 899 cc and 39 PS in 1993, while a 704 cc twin with 31 PS was sold in Poland only. In 1994 the Sporting added a 1,108 cc engine with about 54 PS, a lowered ride and a close-ratio gearbox. Some 1,164,525 were built before the Seicento, a restyle of the same car, replaced it in 1998.
