Ford launched the Customline for 1952 as the middle series of its American range, between the base Mainline and the top Crestline. At launch it came with a 215 cubic inch overhead-valve six or a 239 cubic inch flathead V8, and the American cars ran through the 1956 model year. Ford Australia built its own Customline from 1952 to 1959, a different car sold alongside the American one. Its flathead V8 carried through 1954, and an overhead-valve Y-block V8 arrived in July 1955, built partly with locally sourced components.
