STORY

Ford released the Econoline in September 1960 as a 1961 model, built on the Falcon platform to replace the F-Series panel delivery, and offered it as a cargo van, a passenger wagon and a pickup. The second generation was delayed by a strike and arrived in early 1968. The third generation followed in 1975 on a body-on-frame design, and the fourth, in 1992, came after 17 years of the previous body and brought airbags and new sheet metal. Overhead-cam engines arrived for 1997, including a V10 that Ford said no other van in the segment offered. After 2014 Ford ended the E-Series passenger and cargo vans in favour of the Transit, and the cutaway and chassis versions stayed in production at Avon Lake, Ohio.
