STORY

The American Fairlane took its name from Fair Lane, Henry Ford's estate near Dearborn, Michigan, and replaced the Crestline as Ford's premier full-size car for 1955. The Fairlane 500 trim appeared with the 1957 to 1959 generation. For 1962 the name moved to a smaller, unitized mid-size car and the 221 cubic-inch small-block V8 debuted in it. In 1964 Ford built the Fairlane Thunderbolt, a limited drag-racing special with a 427 cubic-inch V8 and dual four-barrel carburetors. For 1971 the Torino name covered the whole intermediate range and the Fairlane was dropped in North America.
