STORY

Ford used the Galaxie name on its full-size cars from the 1959 model year, at first as a top Fairlane 500 trim, and the line ran in North America until 1974. The 1965 cars were all new, with stacked headlights. A 427 cu in V8 rated 425 hp (SAE gross) with two Holley carburetors was offered from 1963 for racing and stayed available into the 1965 cars. For 1975 the LTD became Ford's full-size model. The Galaxie lasted longer in Brazil, where a car based on the 1966 American design was built from 1967 until 1983, in its last years under the Landau name.
