GT

2004 – 2022

The Ford GT is a mid-engined supercar and spiritual successor to the Le Mans-winning GT40. Two modern generations (2004-2006 and 2017-2022) paired bold styling with a supercharged V8 and, in the later car, a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. The second-generation GT returned to Le Mans and won its class in 2016, 50 years after the original's win. It is Ford's image car, combining racing pedigree with advanced aerodynamics.

The Story

Why the GT matters

The Ford GT name has been used for two cars. The first was built from 2004 to 2006 with a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 rated at 550 hp, and just over 4,000 were made in total. The second was shown at the 2015 Detroit show and is built by Multimatic in Markham, Ontario, with a twin-turbo 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 rated at 647 hp, raised to 660 hp for the 2020 model year. A GT won the GTE Pro class at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, fifty years to the day after Ford's 1966 one-two-three, though not the overall race. The run was planned at 1,350 cars, with 2022 as the last model year.
