STORY

Ford introduced the Ranchero in December 1956 as a 1957 model, a car-based coupe utility that joined cab and cargo bed in one body. For 1960 it moved to the much smaller Falcon platform, and later generations grew a little with each redesign. The seventh and final generation, built from 1977 to 1979, carried LTD II styling on a mid-size platform after Torino production had ended. Production stopped after the 1979 model year, with 508,355 units built across the whole 1957 to 1979 run. This history covers the North American Ranchero only.
