STORY

The Tempo and its Mercury twin, the Topaz, were new for the 1984 model year and replaced the rear-drive Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr. A thoroughly updated second generation arrived in 1988. For 1992 a 3.0-liter Vulcan V6 joined the 2.3-liter four, standard on the sporty GLS and the Topaz XR5, but those V6 versions lasted a single year and the GLS was dropped for 1993. The 1994 model year was the last for the cars themselves.
