STORY

Ford Australia launched the Territory in 2004 as the country's own SUV, designed and built at Broadmeadows on Falcon underpinnings. At launch it used the Falcon's 4.0-litre inline six with rear or all-wheel drive, and Wheels named it Car of the Year for 2004. Reports put the development budget near A$500 million. A turbo-diesel arrived with the 2011 facelift, and production ended in 2016 alongside the Falcon. The name was later given to unrelated SUVs built with JMC in China: Ford released the first images of one on August 9, 2018, and a second generation, unveiled in China in 2022, went on to Latin American markets including Mexico.
