STORY

The Zephyr Six and its smaller Consul sibling were shown at the 1950 Earls Court Motor Show, and the Zephyr entered production in January 1951 with a 2,262 cc six rated at 68 bhp. They were the first mass-produced British cars with MacPherson strut front suspension. The Mk II of 1956 enlarged the six to 2,553 cc, about 85 to 86 bhp depending on the source, and ran until 1962. The Mk III of 1962 added a 1,703 cc Zephyr 4 and servo-assisted front disc brakes. The Mk IV of early 1966 moved to Essex V4 and V6 engines and gave the range independent rear suspension. The Zephyr and Zodiac gave way to the Consul and Granada in 1972.
