STORY

FSO developed the Polonez in Poland, and production began in 1978. Mechanically it shared the platform and engines of the Polski Fiat 125p, in a new hatchback body. The 125p stayed in production alongside it until 1991, the year the Polonez Caro appeared with much more extensive changes. Engines grew from 1.3 and 1.5-litre petrol units to a 1.6-litre and a 2.0-litre Ford petrol, and a 1.5 Turbo SLE with 105 PS was introduced in 1989. FSO ended Polonez passenger car production in 2002.
