STORY

The Envoy began in 1998 as a premium trim of the GMC Jimmy before becoming a standalone midsize SUV on the GMT360 platform for 2002. The second generation shared its architecture with the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and Buick Rainier and had an inline-six as well as V8 power in the longer XL model. An unusual XUV variant had a retractable rear roof. The Envoy was discontinued after 2009 as GMC turned to the crossover Acadia and Terrain.
