STORY

The Maloo was a performance utility built by Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) on the Commodore platform from 1990 to 2017. The first one, released in October 1990, was an HSV conversion of the VG Utility with a 5.0-litre Holden V8 and 180 kW. Maloo is an Aboriginal word for storm or thunder. The 5.0 stayed in use until 2000, and in March 2001 the VU-series became the first Maloo with a 5.7-litre GM LS1 V8, rated at 255 kW.

In May 2006 a Z Series Maloo R8 driven by Mark Skaife set a Guinness record for the fastest production utility, with an average of 271.44 km/h (168.66 mph) in the Woomera Prohibited Area. The E-series of 2007 to 2013 used the 6.0-litre LS2 V8 with 307 kW and then the 6.2-litre LS3 with 317 kW. The final Maloo, on the VF II, appeared in October 2015. The R8 LSA had a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 with 400 kW. In 2017 the GTSR W1 Maloo, with a 474 kW LS9 V8, was built in only 4 examples.
