Launched in 1972, the first Civic in Japan was this compact three-door hatchback, part of the first generation (SB). STORY

The Honda Civic debuted in 1972 as a fuel-efficient subcompact and was pivotal to Honda's global expansion, notably with its low-emission CVCC engine that met U.S. Clean Air standards without a catalytic converter. It has grown across eleven generations from a subcompact into a compact car offered in hatchback, sedan, and coupe forms, and remains one of the best-selling nameplates in Honda's history.
