The five-door arrived in 1974 and stayed in the first-generation Civic (SB) range until 1979. A 1.2 L four-cylinder petrol engine drives the front wheels through a manual gearbox. The extra doors and rear hatch made it more practical than the original two-door and three-door bodies.

STORY

The Honda Civic debuted in 1972 as a fuel-efficient subcompact and was pivotal to Honda's global expansion, notably with its low-emission CVCC engine that met U.S. Clean Air standards without a catalytic converter. It has grown across eleven generations from a subcompact into a compact car offered in hatchback, sedan, and coupe forms, and remains one of the best-selling nameplates in Honda's history.
