1st gen (SB) · 1974–1975FWD

Introduced in 1974, the RS (Road Sailing) was the sporty first-generation Civic in Japan. Its 1.2 L four-cylinder petrol engine makes 76 PS and 101 N m, higher than the ordinary 1200 thanks to a twin-carburettor setup, with a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive. It shares the first-generation hatchback body and sits above the standard 1200 versions in the range.

STORY

The Honda Civic debuted in 1972 as a fuel-efficient subcompact and was pivotal to Honda's global expansion, notably with its low-emission CVCC engine that met U.S. Clean Air standards without a catalytic converter. It has grown across eleven generations from a subcompact into a compact car offered in hatchback, sedan, and coupe forms, and remains one of the best-selling nameplates in Honda's history.
