Civic 1500 5-Door Hatchback

2nd gen (SL/SS) · 1980–1983FWD

Five-door hatchback for Japan in the second-generation Civic (SL/SS), on sale from 1980 to 1983. It has a 1.5 L four-cylinder petrol engine, front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. The extra pair of doors made rear-seat access easier than in the three-door hatchback, and the 1500 engine was the larger choice in the Japanese range.

STORY

The Honda Civic debuted in 1972 as a fuel-efficient subcompact and was pivotal to Honda's global expansion, notably with its low-emission CVCC engine that met U.S. Clean Air standards without a catalytic converter. It has grown across eleven generations from a subcompact into a compact car offered in hatchback, sedan, and coupe forms, and remains one of the best-selling nameplates in Honda's history.
