Civic 1500 DX Hatchback

2nd gen (SL/SS) · 1980–1983FWD

DX-badged hatchback of the American second-generation Civic, sold from 1980 to 1983 with a manual gearbox. The 1.5 L four-cylinder petrol engine makes 67 hp and drives the front wheels. The DX badge marks a better-equipped grade than the base Civic hatchback. It is offered alongside the 1300 and the wagon in the same period, and the range as a whole was familiar to American small-car buyers.

STORY

The Honda Civic debuted in 1972 as a fuel-efficient subcompact and was pivotal to Honda's global expansion, notably with its low-emission CVCC engine that met U.S. Clean Air standards without a catalytic converter. It has grown across eleven generations from a subcompact into a compact car offered in hatchback, sedan, and coupe forms, and remains one of the best-selling nameplates in Honda's history.
