3rd gen (AH/AT) · 1983–1987FWD

Smallest-engined hatchback in Japan's third-generation Civic (AH) range, built from 1983 to 1987. Its 1.3 L four-cylinder petrol engine drives the front wheels through a manual gearbox. The short, tall body of this generation earned the hatch the nickname Wonder Civic, and this model sits below the 1.5 L cars and the sporty Si.

STORY

The Honda Civic debuted in 1972 as a fuel-efficient subcompact and was pivotal to Honda's global expansion, notably with its low-emission CVCC engine that met U.S. Clean Air standards without a catalytic converter. It has grown across eleven generations from a subcompact into a compact car offered in hatchback, sedan, and coupe forms, and remains one of the best-selling nameplates in Honda's history.
