STORY

Honda used the Clarity name first on the FCX Clarity, a hydrogen fuel-cell sedan whose production began in Japan in June 2008 and whose first U.S. lease customer took delivery on July 25, 2008. The 2016 generation began with the Clarity Fuel Cell, which went on sale in Japan on March 10, 2016 with a cruising range Honda gave as about 750 km. The U.S. fuel cell car followed in December 2016, the Clarity Electric in August 2017 and the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid later in 2017 with an EPA rating of 47 electric miles. In June 2021 Honda said production of the Plug-in Hybrid and Fuel Cell would end that August.
