STORY

Honda put the first CR-X on sale in Japan on 1 July 1983 as the Ballade Sports CR-X, sold through Verno dealers with a 1.3 or 1.5-litre front-drive engine. From November 1984 a 1.6-litre DOHC 16-valve CR-X Si joined it. In some markets outside Japan the same car was sold as the Civic CRX. The second generation arrived in September 1987 with the new Civic, and in September 1989 VTEC engines reached the Civic three-door and the CR-X in Japan. Japanese sales of this car ended in February 1992, when Honda replaced it with the CR-X del Sol, a different open-top body that went on sale in March 1992.
