1st gen (GH) · 1998–2006FWD

The three-door body is what sets this first-generation HR-V apart: a short, high-riding compact crossover sold from 1998 to 2006 in international markets. Its 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine makes 105 PS and 138 N m, driving the front wheels through a manual gearbox. A five-door version followed in 2000 for buyers who wanted more practicality.

STORY

The Honda HR-V debuted in 1998 as an early compact crossover on the Logo/Civic platform, then was discontinued in 2006. The nameplate returned in 2015 with a new model derived from the Fit and sold in Japan as the Vezel, followed by a third generation in 2021. It has grown into one of Honda's key global compact SUVs.
