For 1997 and 1998 the first US Odyssey received a larger 2.3 L four-cylinder, and the LX kept the four-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. The design still has hinged rear doors on an Accord-based body. The new engine is the main change from the 1995 to 1996 LX.

STORY

The Honda Odyssey is a minivan launched in 1994; early Japanese generations were car-based with conventional doors, while North American models grew larger with sliding doors. The nameplate diverged into distinct Japanese and North American lines, with the US version becoming a full-size minivan built in Alabama.
