STORY

Honda showed the Pilot in pre-production form at the Detroit show in January 2002, presented the production version in New York that March and said it would go on sale in June as a 2003 model. It was a three-row SUV with a 3.5-litre VTEC V6 rated at 240 hp SAE net, built at Alliston, Ontario. Honda rated the engine at 255 hp for 2005, then 244 hp for 2006 after the SAE test method changed. Alabama began building it in April 2004 alongside Alliston, the third generation in 2016 raised output to 280 hp, and the fourth generation for 2023 brought 285 hp and a 10-speed automatic. It is sold under the Pilot name in North America and is a Honda, not an Acura.
