STORY

Honda announced the S2000 prototype in September 1998 and began selling the car in April 1999. The F20C, a 1,997 cc four, made 250 PS at 8,300 rpm, which Honda called the highest output of any production naturally aspirated 2-litre four-cylinder engine in the world, and the car was the first car certified to meet Japan's Heisei-12 emission rules. A Type V with variable gear ratio steering followed in July 2000. In Japan the engine grew to 2.2 litres in November 2005, while European cars kept 2.0 litres. Honda announced in January 2009 that production would end in June 2009, after more than 110,000 sales worldwide by the end of 2008. The car kept the S2000 name in every market.
