STORY
Centennial was a limited export name for the first-generation Hyundai Equus, the flagship sedan that went on sale in 1999 and was developed with Mitsubishi, which sold its own versions as the Proudia sedan and Dignity limousine. The launch engines were a 3.5-litre V6 and a 4.5-litre V8 of Mitsubishi origin. The V8 started as a direct-injection unit that needed premium fuel, scarce in Korea, so Hyundai changed it to multipoint injection. A facelift, the New Equus, arrived in 2003, and in 2005 a 3.8-litre Lambda V6 joined the range.
