STORY

The Elantra began in October 1990 as a compact sedan with a 1.6-litre engine, and the second generation followed in March 1995. The third generation, XD, arrived in 2000, and the fourth, HD, was shown at the 2006 New York show. The fifth, launched in 2010, was named 2012 North American Car of the Year at the Detroit show, ahead of the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Passat. The sixth, AD, ran from 2015 to 2020, and the seventh, CN7, was revealed in March 2020. In South Korea the car is sold as the Avante, and Elantra was the export name in the US from the first generation and in Europe from the third, XD, generation.
