STORY

The Ascender was Isuzu's rebadged version of the GMC Envoy, a mid-size body-on-frame SUV built by General Motors under the partnership that supplied Isuzu's US dealers late in its passenger-vehicle life. Offered in both seven-seat long-wheelbase and shorter five-seat forms, it used GM's Vortec engines rather than Isuzu's own powertrains. It became the last SUV Isuzu sold in the United States before Isuzu ended its US sales in January 2009.
