STORY

The Liberty replaced the Cherokee (XJ) for 2002 as a more rounded, car-friendly compact SUV, sold in most markets outside North America as the Cherokee. The first-generation KJ introduced independent front suspension and available diesel power, while the boxier second-generation KK of 2008 returned to a more upright, traditional Jeep look. Production ended in 2012, with the Cherokee (KL) name returning to take its place.
