STORY

Bongo is Kia's long-running light truck, and this entry covers the Korean-market Bongo III, not the Japanese Mazda Bongo. Kia dates the line to 1981, when it launched a 1-ton diesel truck and the Bongo Coach van, though some sources say the truck began in 1980. The third generation, the Bongo Frontier, followed in 1997. The Bongo III, counted by Kia as the fourth generation, was first released in 2004 (sources give both 2004 and 2005) and brought a common-rail diesel. A later 2.5-litre turbodiesel was rated at 130 PS (96 kW). Kia still sells the Bongo III in the 2020s with LPG and electric versions.
