STORY

Clarus is the export name of the Kia Credos, the mid-size sedan Kia launched in South Korea in 1995 and sold in other markets as the Clarus, notably in Europe. It shares its mechanical and body parts with the Mazda 626 of the early 1990s. A reworked Clarus came in May 1998. A 2.0-litre petrol engine was rated at 133 PS (98 kW), and a UK test of the GSX gave 131 bhp, with 0-60 mph in 10.9 seconds. The Hyundai-based Magentis, sold in Korea as the Optima, replaced it from September 2000, and the Clarus was no longer on sale in the UK by July 2001. The Clarus and Credos names describe the same car.
