Mohave

2008 – 2015

The Borrego, sold as the Mohave in South Korea, is a body-on-frame full-size SUV introduced in 2008 with three-row seating and available V6 and V8 engines. Designed under Peter Schreyer, it offered low-range four-wheel drive and genuine towing capability. Its U.S. run was brief, ending during the 2009 model year, though it continued in Korea for years afterward.

The Story

Why the Mohave matters

The Mohave is a body-on-frame SUV that Kia introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2008, where it was shown as the Borrego, the name used in the United States and Canada. Its engines were a 3.8-litre V6 of 276 hp and a 4.6-litre V8. Kia announced in December 2009 that it would not return to the US for 2010, but the Mohave stayed on sale in South Korea. At the 2019 Seoul Motor Show Kia showed the Masterpiece concept, and the updated Mohave went on sale in Korea in September 2019 with the 3.0-litre V6 diesel and the same body-on-frame layout.
