STORY

The Pregio was a rear-drive Kia van and minibus launched in 1995 as the successor to the Mazda-based Besta coach. Kia calls it Korea's first independently developed van. Its first engine was the 2.7-litre J2 diesel of 2,665 cc, shared with the Bongo. Exported widely, it became a common public-transport vehicle in Latin America, where the long-wheelbase Pregio Grand sold well in Colombia and Ecuador. Production ended in 2006 by most sources, although a guide for the Philippine market ends the first generation in 2005.
