The Story

Why the Stratos matters

Lancia built the Stratos HF as a purpose-made rally car. Bertone showed the Stratos Zero concept in 1970, and the production design followed, with a short wedge body and the 2.4-litre Ferrari Dino V6 mounted behind the seats. The road-going Stradale made 190 PS, and the Group 4 competition car made considerably more.

Roughly 490 cars were built to homologate it for Group 4, though no official count exists. The Stratos won the World Rally Championship manufacturers' title in 1974, 1975 and 1976.
