L663 · 2027–presentAWDSUVLimited

The Dakar is an L663 Defender SUV sold from 2027, with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 making 635 PS and 750 Nm through an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Land Rover built it as a road-legal version of its Dakar competition vehicle, after the brand won the 2026 Dakar Rally on its debut. It adapts the rally car's hardware and geometry, with an upgraded cooling system because the road car is not bound by race class limits.

STORY

The Defender name was adopted in 1990 for the coil-sprung 90/110/130 utility range that had launched in 1983, building Land Rover's rugged off-road reputation over a long production life ending in 2016. An all-new Defender (L663) arrived for 2020, replacing the traditional body-on-frame layout with a monocoque platform while retaining serious off-road ability. The new model broadened the appeal of the name to lifestyle buyers alongside its traditional utilitarian roots.
