STORY
The Freelander launched in 1997 as Land Rover's first compact, monocoque-construction SUV, aimed at the growing crossover market and becoming a strong seller in Europe. The second-generation Freelander 2 arrived in 2006 on a larger platform with more premium positioning. In North America it was sold as the LR2, and the line was replaced by the Discovery Sport in 2014.
