STORY
The GS was Lexus's rear-wheel-drive mid-size sports saloon, sold from 1993 to 2020 against the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. Only the first generation (S140), marketed in Japan as the Toyota Aristo, wore Italdesign/Giugiaro styling; the second-generation S160 and later cars were designed in-house and pushed a more athletic, driver-focused character including hybrid and high-performance F variants. Slow sales in a shrinking segment led Lexus to discontinue the GS, folding its role into the larger, hybrid-led ES.
