The RX effectively created the luxury crossover segment, launching in 1998 as the car-based alternative to truck-like SUVs and quickly becoming Lexus's best-seller. In 2005 it introduced the RX 400h, the world's first luxury hybrid SUV, which strengthened the brand's lead in hybrids. Successive generations grew bolder in styling and technology, with the current RX offering turbo, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains on the GA-K platform.
The RX is Lexus's mid-size luxury crossover, and the original 1998 model is widely credited with pioneering the segment by combining SUV practicality with car-like unibody refinement. It has since spanned V6, the first luxury hybrid SUV, and the turbo-four performance hybrid RX 500h.
