Zephyr

2006 – 2006

The Zephyr name has been used twice by Lincoln, first for the streamlined entry-level line that began in 1936 and again for a mid-size sedan introduced for the 2006 model year. The modern Zephyr shared its platform with the Ford Fusion and was renamed MKZ after only one year. The original Zephyr used unibody construction and led directly to the first Continental.

The Story

Why the Zephyr matters

The Zephyr was a mid-size luxury sedan sold by Lincoln for the 2006 model year, reviving the name of the Lincoln-Zephyr of the 1930s and 1940s. It was built on Ford's CD3 platform alongside the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, and it introduced Lincoln's modern split-wing grille design language. After just one year it was renamed MKZ for 2007, which made the Zephyr a short-lived transitional model.
