X180 · 1989–1993RWD

The SE (1989-1993) used the Peter Stevens X180 restyle with smoother, rounder bodywork over the turbocharged 2.2-litre slant-four, tuned to around 264 hp. It was the quickest naturally turbocharged Esprit of its era, with charge-cooling for more power.

STORY

The Lotus Esprit was a mid-engined sports car produced from 1976 to 2004, originally styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro with a sharp folded-paper wedge design. It evolved from the Lotus 907 slant-four through the Peter Stevens-restyled X180, S4 and finally the twin-turbo V8 versions. The Esprit gained wide fame from its appearances as a submarine car in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.
