Seven · 1970–1972RWD

The final Lotus-built Seven, the S4 (1970-1972) replaced the classic aluminium body with an angular fibreglass shell over a revised spaceframe and backbone chassis. Power came from Ford Kent crossflow fours or the Lotus Twin Cam. It closed the Lotus era of the model before rights passed to Caterham in 1973.

STORY

The Lotus Seven was a minimalist, lightweight two-seat sports car introduced by Colin Chapman in 1957, built around a simple tubular spaceframe with cycle-style or clamshell wings. It became an icon of affordable, back-to-basics driving and enjoyed great club-racing success. Lotus sold the rights in 1973, after which Caterham continued producing it as the Caterham Seven.
