STORY

The Lucid Air launched in 2021 as the first production car from Lucid Motors, the California EV maker long led by Peter Rawlinson, a former Tesla chief engineer, who stepped down as CEO in 2025. It is built on a 900-volt architecture. The Dream Edition has an EPA-rated range of more than 500 miles, and the car has a compact, very power-dense drive unit. The flagship Air Sapphire has three motors and produces over 1,200 horsepower, which makes it one of the quickest four-door sedans ever built. The Air is built at Lucid's AMP-1 plant in Casa Grande, Arizona.
