Khamsin (US)

Khamsin · 1975–1982

The United States Khamsin followed the European car from 1975 but wore larger impact bumpers to satisfy federal regulations. It shared the 4930 cc V8, Gandini wedge body and glass rear panel, along with the Citroen hydraulic systems for steering and brakes. Emissions equipment trimmed output for the American market compared with the home-market version.

STORY

The Maserati Khamsin was a front-engined 2+2 grand tourer produced from 1974 to 1982, styled by Marcello Gandini at Bertone and named after a hot desert wind. It featured a 4.9-litre quad-cam V8 and Citroen-derived hydraulics for steering, brakes and the pop-up headlights. About 430 examples were built.
