Sitting above the GTX in the BG range, the 323 GT-R ran a bigger-turbo 1.8-liter four for about 210 PS through all-wheel drive. Only limited numbers were built to satisfy Group A rally rules.

STORY

The Mazda 323, known in Japan as the Familia, was Mazda's long-running compact offered as hatchback, sedan and wagon. It switched to front-wheel drive with the BD generation in 1980 and became a strong seller worldwide, with turbocharged four-wheel-drive versions homologating Mazda's works rally cars. It was replaced by the Mazda3 in 2003.
